8 Days Bwindi Gorilla Trekking & Kenya Wildlife Safari

Discover the beautiful countries in East Africa as you trek the remaining endangered mountain gorillas, visiting the local communities like the Batwa and Maasai, take part in game drives and then visit the cities with their wonders.

All these will be rewarding moments which take you close to the locals and wildlife in their natural setting. This safari will start in Kampala – Uganda and it will end in Nairobi – Kenya with alternating fly-drive experience.

You will have a chance to spot the big five animals and the big cats. You can join a group to take up this safari or as an individual.

Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Pick up from the hotel in Kampala and transfer to Bwindi

On this day, you will meet the assigned driver guide who will transfer you to Bwindi impenetrable national park the world heritage site. It’s quite a long distance that takes almost a full day but rewarding through the valleys and hills, the terraced Kigezi highlands and Ankole cattle farms.

You will have the first stopover at the Uganda Equator to purchase some souvenirs, experiment and photography and then the second will be in Mbarara for lunch and Ankole cultural experience.

The Bwindi impenetrable national park is one of the parks in Africa that harbours mountain gorillas and is divided into four sectors that all have habituated gorilla families. This park is also home to the highest population of mountain gorillas in the whole of Africa.

Day 2: Gorilla trekking and Batwa community visit.

Head to the park offices after an early breakfast and by 0700hours you need to have reported. Receive briefing to enable trekking to run on smoothly like no making noise in the forest, no feeding animals, no mimic among others.

Then with the help of park ranger, you will penetrate the impenetrable forest to search for these beautiful creatures. On locating them, you will have an hour to enjoy their presence and then trek back out of the office. But remember, trekking can take over 3-4 hours depending on where you locate these gorillas.

You will be rewarded with a certificate for trekking the gorillas in Uganda. In the afternoon, visit the Batwa community with their extraordinary culture. Enjoy their music and dances as you taste their traditional meal. Retire in the evening, transfer back to the lodge.

Day 3: Transfer back to Kampala

Transfer back to the Kampala the capital city of Uganda which got its name from impalas that used to stay in this area about 100 years ago. You will have several stopovers with a good scenery for photography.

Then you will be dropped at the hotel in Kampala but you have an option of nightlife in the city after dinner.

another option would be to bypass Lake Mburo national park for a game drive.

Day 4: Kampala city tour and fly to Nairobi – Kenya

You will carry out a short city excursion where you will visit areas like the Uganda museum with its cultural, political and historical attractions, Kabaka’s palace, local craft markets among others.

You will be transferred to Entebbe after lunch for your scheduled flight to Nairobi Kenya. You will meet and greet the tour representative at Jomo Kenyatta international airport who will transfer you to the booked hotel in the city. You have an option of nightlife after dinner.

Day 5: Transfer to L. Nakuru National Park

Take breakfast and then transfer to Lake Nakuru national park which was established around 1961 and it’s famous for flamingos which are attracted by abundant algae.

It’s also home of a variety of wildlife in form of mammals, bird species, tree species among others and these include; giraffes, white and black rhinos, waterbucks, lions, cheetahs, leopards are also spotted. Other birds among others are African Fish Eagle, Goliath heron, pied kingfisher and hammerkop.

On arrival after a drive of 3-4 hours, you will take lunch which will be followed by the evening game drive then after check-in for your dinner.

Day 6: Transfer to Maasai Mara national reserve

Transfer to Maasai Mara national reserve after breakfast while traversing in the plains of L. Nakuru national park. This can take 6-7 hour’s drive but rewarding adventure, you need to know that this park is located at the border of Tanzania and Kenya and famous for the migration of wildebeests and zebras in millions and thousands respectively.

Other mammals in this park among others include giraffes, rhinos, waterbucks, hyenas, wildebeests and various primates like olive baboons and Vervet monkeys. You will check in the safari lodge on your arrival.

Day 7: Full day Maasai Mara game drive

Explore to the fullest Maasai Mara national reserve where you will discover its beauty and while there, you will spot a variety of wildlife such as the big cats, the big five animals among others. Lunch picnic in the wilderness is enjoyed on top of the vehicle while gazing at the animals in the beautiful sites.

You can also take a visit to Maasai people who are believed to be the ancestral inhabitants of this reserve and they will entertain you with the dances and music while listening to their tales.

Day 8: Transfer back to Nairobi and fly back home

Have a chilly breakfast and transfer back to Nairobi which will be followed by a drop off at the airport which will be the end of your 8 days Uganda gorillas and Kenya wildlife safari. Rudi Tena (come again)!
