Detailed tour
Day 1: Pickup and Lake Nakuru national park
Meet our company representative at either the airport or your hotel at an agreed time, and be briefed about this 8 days Rwanda and Kenya safari before starting the engine. Your knowledgeable driver-guide will gently hit the road to Lake Nakuru National park, traversing the happy natives, buzzing Nairobi city and rolling hills spread across the countryside.
There will be lunch en route, and any other optional stopover, before arriving at the park for an evening game viewing experience, relaxation, dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Full day Lake Nakuru adventure
At sunrise, enjoy a yummy cup of coffee before heading for a rewarding game drive and visiting all the different hideouts of the lions, leopards, elephants, Buffaloes, ostriches, cheetahs, antelopes, giraffes, warthogs, and zebras among others, plus the fascinating landscape and cool climate.
After the 4-5 hours of adventure, relax with a heavy picnic lunch before proceeding to the lake shores to watch, take photos and learn more about the flamingoes, as well as other rare bird species in this haven. After the revelation, enjoy a sunset drive back to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Transfer to Masai Mara national park
A heavy relaxed cup of coffee comes first in today’s program, before saying farewell to the people who accommodated you for the two nights. You will enjoy a game drive as you exit Lake Nakuru for Masai Mara national park; home to a wide range of flora and fauna and stunning landscape.
There will be an en-route stopover at the great rift valley for photography and another at Narok center for lunch before calling off the journey with a two-hour drive to Masai Mara national park, traversing thriving plantations and homesteads. Upon checking-in to your lodge, refresh and enjoy the cool ambiance as dinner and overnight come last.
Day 4: Full Day Masai Mara game safari
At 06:00hrs, get together your camera, binoculars, and packed lunched and disappear in the vast Masai Mara wilderness in search for if not all then most of the mammals, birds and tree species you have ever heard of, such as the African big five (lions, leopards, rhinos, buffalos, and elephants), zebras, giraffes, cheetah, warthogs, antelopes, and wildebeest among others, flamingoes, ostriches, and shoebill stork.
After game viewing for 3-4 hours, enjoy a bush breakfast served in one of the safe tree shades in the wild, before returning for another two-hour game drive, followed by a picnic lunch.
Thereafter, you will explore the Mara River; home to a vast number of school of hippos, crocodiles, birds and mammals quenching their thirst. Mara River is also that one action place during the annual wildebeest migration from June.
Day 5: Visit the Masai people and transfer to Volcanoes national park
Very early in the morning, you will enjoy a delicious cup of coffee, before visiting The Maasai people; one of the oldest ethnic cultures in the world with very exciting stories, cultural dances, architecture, and unforgettable outfit.
You are expected to participate in the different activities in the morning, and also support by donating or buying their souvenirs before returning to the lodge for early lunch and fly direct to Kigali airport – Rwanda.
On arrival in Kigali, you will meet our company representative who will brief you embarking on a 2-3 hours’ drive to Volcanoes national park, traversing the undulating hills and green plantations. On arrival at the lodge, refresh, and then enjoy dinner, followed by overnight stay.
Day 6: Gorilla tracking and visiting the twin lakes
At 06:00hrs summarize the last dot of tea in your cup and join other members at the park’s headquarters for Gorilla document verification and briefing the last for approximately 30 minutes from 8:00 am local time. The park rangers will explain the dos and don’ts of Gorilla trekking; assign you a gorilla family before escorting you to the Jungles.
The tracking exercise lasts for 1-6 hours, right from the point they last left the Apes to where they suspect them to be feeding, playing, or resting. As you search, expect to encounter other primates such as monkeys, and baboons, birds and rare tree species, and enjoying the sweet melodies that have filled up the Jungle.
Fitness is necessary because the places are a little hilly, though potters are there to give assistance where needed. One hour is given to you to take photos, watch and ask any question about the giant silverbacks, blackbucks, female gorillas, or the adolescents.
Thereafter, you will drive back to the lodge for lunch, followed by an optional drive to the twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo before dinner and overnight stay.
Day 7: Visit Dian Fossey grave and depart Volcanoes national park to Lake Kivu
On this day, you will hike to Dian Fossey graveyard after delicious breakfast; a primate researcher who devoted her entire life to the conservation of mountain gorillas but only to be gunned downed by unknown assailants. She is buried besides her beloved gorillas, that were also killed by poachers.
You will later return to the lodge for lunch, and then checkout for a transfer to Lake Kivu; Rwanda’s largest freshwater Lake Kivu to have fun and refresh from the tiresome activities from the first day. You will enjoy a canoe ride, visit the fishing villages and partake of the seafood in L. Kivu.
You will close today’s chapter with dinner and overnight at the lodge.
Day 8: Kigali city tour and departure.
After breakfast, you will depart Lake Kivu to Kigali. But depending on your flight time, you will first visit the genocide memorial site to learn about the 1994 brutal killings between the Tutsi and Hutus because of the Ethnic wars, followed by a drive to the local markets to purchase some souvenirs before having lunch and proceeding to the airport for departure.
