These people still live in villages called ‘manyattas’ and they move from one place to another as they search for fresh pasture for their animals (camels, goats, donkeys and cattle).

This park covers an area of 165sq.km and located in a distance of 350km from the city of Nairobi which takes 5-6 hours’ drive. It boosts a number of attractions and the main ones are the wild animals such as gravy’s zebras, Oryx, lions, cheetahs, leopards, giraffes, several antelopes like impalas, waterbucks, and grant’s gazelles among others.

It has the Samburu special five and these can only be spotted in this area which include; Gerenuk giraffe gazelle: the word gerenuk means long necked in Samburu language, Somali ostrich which has grey-blue skin while other ostriches have pink necks and legs, grevy’s zebra also known as imperial zebras, reticulated giraffe and Beisa Oryx. This makes Samburu national reserve very unique and special from other parks.
